Network Packet Capture

In the following example, we use tcpdump to view the data transmitted via websocket by the workerman-chat application. In the workerman-chat example, the server provides websocket services on port 7272, so we capture packets on port 7272.

  1. Run the command tcpdump -Ans 4096 -iany port 7272

  2. Enter http://127.0.0.1:55151 in the browser address bar.

  3. Input the nickname mynick.

  4. Enter the message hi, all ! in the input box.

The above is all the requests for login and speaking, with a total of two browser clients.

In the packet data, [S] represents the SYN request (initiating connection request); [.] represents the ACK response, indicating that the request endpoint has received it; [P] represents sending data; [P.] represents [P] + [.].

If the data transmitted on the port is binary data, it can be viewed in hexadecimal using tcpdump -XAns 4096 -iany port 7272
